school programs
Innovative producers of interactive technology training extend
their Broadband platform to enrich the curriculum of
after-school program founded by Arnold Schwarzenegger
Los Angeles, California - Arnold's All-Stars, a leading
California after school program and Nortel Networks Kidz Online
(NNKOL), a nonprofit organization that produces cutting-edge
peer-to-peer training, have announced an agreement whereby
NNKOL will provide the curriculum and streaming video content
to teach technology-related skills at participating
schools.
Based in Herndon, Virginia, NNKOL has recently launched
development and production of its five broadband channels at a
new Los Angeles studio. The Arnold's All-Stars staff, which has
recently been trained during a full-day workshop at the NNKOL
studio, will be provided with a detailed, step-by-step
curriculum to bring into the classroom. Combined with NNKOL's
interactive streaming video library, available free over the
Internet to all students through their website, this
partnership assures that the students will have access to an
up-to-date, entertaining technology education. This combination
of resources will translate into the development of practical,
real-world career skills.
Executive Director of Arnold's All-Stars, Gary Moody stated,
"This pilot program, underway at four Los Angeles middle
schools, will serve as a model for California and the nation.
We are proving that well-managed and creative after school
programs can provide valuable skills for our youth so that they
can become productive members of our hi-tech economy."
The partnership between Arnold's All-Stars and NNKOL seeks to
cement the foundation for this type of innovative
collaboration, providing an example of what is possible and
what is available to educators and after-school programs across
North America.
According to Phil Cruver, President of NNKOL, "We're supplying
the curriculum and our streaming videos will serve as learning
tools. This will empower the enthusiastic staff at Arnold's All
Stars to teach and guide the students, as they get a head start
on the career skills required for tomorrow's workers. The
media-rich curriculum created for Arnold's All-Stars should
serve as a model for the marriage of technology and after
school programs nationwide."
